Personal license plates available for veterans

Daily News Article - July 14, 2016

Eligible veterans who were awaiting regular "veterans" license plates can go to the Office of Veterans Affairs to be issued a set.

Being eligible includes not already having the maximum two sets of plates, according to a statement issued by the Office of Veterans Affairs.

"In order to accommodate as many veterans as possible, we must put a limit on the number of plates that one veteran can get," Director Patrick Farrell said in the prepared statement.

Additionally, veterans' plates can be personalized.  Once per quarter veterans will be able to order personalized plates through the Office of Veterans Affairs; however, the personalized plates must be paid for by the veteran, according to the agency.

Regular plates are free to those eligible; however, personalized plates are $55 per set.  Personalized plates will become available Oct. 1, according to the statement.

Orders will be taken for the first 15 days of every quarter and then sent off as one package, according to the agency.
